To whom it may concern:
It’s difficult to write this letter because I fear it will fall on deaf ears. On ears that have already pulled the Mitch McConnell to hate everything that Trump has done (in 7 days), is doing and will ever do. To those of you I say, keep fighting, keep speaking your mind (in respect I hope) and most importantly, keep listening. I also say, take an honest look at yourselves and ask yourself how you reacted to Mitch McConnell’s comments in 2009. Ah yes, 2009. There was a faction of people on the exact opposite side of the spectrum on which you sit preaching the doom and gloom in 2009.

What a similar year, with similar paths and similar alt concerns. I understand your fears, their fears…the feeling that you are not being heard. The feeling of helplessness when the party you oppose is now in majority control of Congress and the White House. It’s an odd place to be and many can feel left behind, even a sense of being lost and maybe even a wee bit radical. To you I say, relax. But here we are. Life goes on, power changes, and another zig-zag in the path of the American journey occurs. This doesn’t mean stop speaking your views or values. What is does mean is count your blessings every day that you live in a country where you CAN speak out, even in the position you are in. The truth is, I think you truly underestimate the genius of the Founding Fathers and our constitution. These Founders set in a place a dynamic document, an idea of which the country can continue to be ruled by “the people”, with a focus on a strong balance of power.
Remember, Democrats lost the House in 2010 because the country thought they had gone too far and forced a new health care system upon the people. Nancy Pelosi’s famous words “we have to pass it to find out what’s in it” did not help their cause very much. Dems held on the Senate (barely) in 2010. The transition of power in the House slowed the Obama agenda significantly to the point where the Senate decided the “nuclear option” was necessary to continue the agenda. Because America thought that was still too much power, the Dems then lost the Senate in 2014. THE COUNTRY PULLED THEM BACK.

Believe me, if Mr. Trump moves too far, the country WILL pull him back. I would take some solace in the fact that even Establishment Republicans do not agree with many Trump ideas, i.e. trade, union outreach, etc. At our core, we should all value the American Idea. So while I may disagree with many who disagree with me, we should find absolute common ground on the American idea. Believing in our founding ideas keeps all of our freedoms and rights equal. If we do not agree on our constitution, laws and that no one is above them, then it may be time to consider finding another nation with a government that suits, because the majority of people here love our freedoms. How can you not?
So fight on, speak out, believe in your beliefs, and let others do the same with love and without hate. After all, isn't that what you preach?
